The YWCA, originally known as the Young Women’s Christian Association, is a women’s social advocacy group active in many countries across the world. The organization decided to drop the official name “Young Women’s Christian Association” since they weren’t solely concerned with women who were young, or Christian. However, they decided to keep the name “YWCA” for branding purposes.
According to the YWCA USA’s mission statement, the organization “is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.” It is registered as a 501c3 in the U.S.
Recently, The Liberty Standard was made aware of a troubling document found on the YWCA USA’s website. The document, found here, is titled “Definitions and Descriptions of Racism”. Here are some excerpts from the long document:
The document claims that all whites, regardless of class, culture, or other indications, are racists. It also claims that whites invented the notion of race, and that there is no such thing as a “non-racist.” One must be “anti-racist” in order to avoid the label.
These claims generalize an entire race of people, and ironically enough, are clear cut examples of racism itself.
This racism would not necessarily be an issue if the organization was funded and assisted exclusively by private individuals. However, YWCA branches across the Globe get money from, and also have partnerships with many groups, from corporations to governments. The Allstate Foundation, First Book, Stop. Think. Connect., the United States Olympic Committee, and Million Women Mentors are all examples of partnerships within the United States.
The organization also routinely advocates for more funding from taxpayers for various issues, giving them a say in how government budgets are allocated.
Perhaps the YWCA should stop promoting these ridiculous notions?
